A Remarkable Tool for Presenters, Beginner or Pro!

I agree with a prior reviewer's point of how a pro can make the difficult appear easy. Brian's book lays out a step-by-step, easy to grasp approach to delivering effective presentations. For many professionals, part of the job is public speaking in the form of presentations. It's not a stretch to assume that those who are better at it have better chances of career advancement. For beginners, this book makes the idea presentations (public speaking) far less daunting. For more experienced people, here's a great opportunity to get even better.
In particular, this book does a terrific job of:
- Helping (those who want help) presenters get a handle on the content, verbal and visual presentation approaches used by the pros, including the best in the business.
- Helping presenters critique & learn from the presentations they attend. One can't help but look at workplace or professional presentations in a different way than before reading this book (and that's a good thing).
- Making the reader wish other presenters had also read the book. Readers should consider mentioning this title to others as a constructive suggestion.
- Making what could be a hopelessly dry topic for self-improvement an enjoyable read, with some well thought out hyperlinks to well-delivered presentations that stir the mind.
- Offering simple-recipe presentation slide templates that remove an excuse to not improve one's professional skills.
- Pointing out the very common misuse of apostrophes. That's a large pet peeve for me and I've seen the error far too many times in charts prepared for and given by journeyman-level people and senior managers that simply should know better. This book has spot-on comments too, about the impressions those common errors give to the senior people in the audience who DO know better.
This book is a small investment with potential for an outstanding payoff, I highly recommend.

Section 4 on structure was worth the 3.99 all by itself

A great primer on what to say and how it should be said.
The section on structuring your presentation could be a short ebook all by itself. Everyone who presents has been told that they need to tell a better story. Make the presentation emotional, visual, blah, blah. This book showed me the HOW. The parallel tracks technique, to cite just one example, was an eye-opener and was invaluable in help me decide how to organize a very technical presentation I had to deliver at a recent conference.
One small quibble, which is why I'm giving it 4 stars: the title is a little misleading. There's no way to finish the whole title in an hour. I could be a slow reader, but just the one section I mention here took me an hour to read through.

Great thoughts to keep in mind...every time.

You know how professional athletes make difficult tasks look easy? Mr. Culp has done an outstanding job of giving us all a group of rules to follow, approaches to consider and pitfalls to avoid that will make us all look like pros. Everyone's professional lives would be better if we could avoid suffering through painful presentations, and this book has the answers. Well thought out and with humorous anecdotes to keep even my short attention span engaged. Outstanding.
