Very confusing paperweight (if it was thick enough)

After reading Tomoko Fuse's excellent book on Unit Origami I wanted to get a little farther into it. This books seemed a good place to start. It is not.
On the plus side, there are many, many models in the book. Also, there seems to be some fundamental "theory" that generates them, which would allow a great deal of flexibility and range of design to anyone who used it.
On the negative side, I can't for the life of me figure out how to make even a single model. The whole first 3/4 of the book consists of things like this: A line drawing of a polyhedron labelled, for instance, "Rhombicuboctahedron" and then a photo of an origami pice that doesn't seem related. Finally on page 40 (of ~75) there's a second on "Model Construction". It turns out you need paper in multiple sizes (1.6875 inches is one of them) to make almost all the models. And it still doesn't explain just how to put the units together or even how to make the units (other than "this is how to make a flat hexagon" type of instructions)!
There's also some kind of method or technique called "gyroscoping" that I can't figure out.
I would give this 0 stars, but the other review is so positive that I feel sure that, if one could penetrate the dense prose sections or understand the seemingly-content-free main body, great things could be done.

Origami for the serious Geometrician

This is a book designed for constructing geometric models using small folded units or modules. A large number of polyhedra are explained in this volume.
The beginning of the book (first 50 pages or so), talks about the different classes of figures and give detailed information about each figure, including photographs.
There is then a short section devoted to creating different shapes of paper from squares (triangles, pentagons, hexagons, etc.).
Finally there is a section for folding the individual units themselves. Each unit is capable of connecting to the others.
There is an interesting feature that I would like to see in other unit books. After a particularly well-detailed unit, there was a one-page summary of the folding thus making it easier on the folder who does not memorize the unit and just needs a guide while folding the requisite number of units.
This is a well laid out book that does an excellent job of covering the material and achieves is goal. But this is not a book for all folders. It is aimed at the serious folder of geometric solids.
The typical low price from Dover makes this an easy volume to add to one's origami or geometry library.

Again a copy from the Bootstrap online manual! Don't buy!

There seems to be a curse on the Twitter Bootstrap books, because this is the 3th book about it I have seen that is total rubbish!

This is for the author:

* I don't need to be explained what Twitter Bootstrap is (if I did not know that I would not buy the book in the first place!).

* I don't need a copy of the Twitter Bootstrap website instructions!

Most important things like the implementation of LESS and CSS (the main reason that people will purchase a book about Bootstrap!) are just a little
bit or not explained.

I have years of experience with CSS and also CSS3. But what I want to know is how to edit the CSS or do you expect people to understand how the 9000 lines CSS
all work with no instructions.

This problem occurs every time someone with no real deep Bootstrap experience decides to write a book about it.

Very disappointing!!!

Just read the official docs

I am not a fan of this book. It contains mostly what's already available in the online documentation. I kept expecting the author to get into topics of how to use the framework effectively, or good design choices of things that work well with the framework.

Instead it's just a cookbook of the different elements that bootstrap makes available, curiously in almost the same order and similar content that the official docs make available.

I expect more depth from an o'Reilly book. Something that is going to help me make good choices when implementing. Something that is going to help me understand the "why" and "how" not just the "what" and "where".

Short but insightful

Given the current national debate over immigration the perspective of one of our most respected presidents is invaluable. His compassionate approach at a time when the threat of infiltration by communist spies was very real, is still needed as we face a similar threat from international terrorists. While the threat is real, the opportunity cost of closing our borders is, in my opinion, far greater than the cost of terrorism in lives and treasure. His insight should inform the current debate.

Wow. This NEEDS to be required reading in schools.

Wow. Wow. WOW. This book. I bought this book because I've always been fairly interested in the topic of immigration, and finding myself with not that much to do on this last fourth of July, I decided to sit down and finally give the book a look. I read it cover-to-cover in 2 hours. I was blown away. I wanted to cry and scream. Forget ideologies and politics, looking at history alone, JFK outlines how clumsily, hypocritically and outright poorly, we, as a nation, have dealt with immigration.

I'm not a political person & I earnestly try to avoid politics, but the contents of this book are so compelling, I honestly think it is one of the most important books that every American needs to read.

Amazing & extremely relevant book

The book goes through a history of US immigration and shows how truly we are a nation of immigrants. It is a short book but very detailed, giving the numbers of millions of Irish, Italians, and others who made America what it is, including the immigration patterns of "the Founding Fathers." None, except the slaves, came with any documentation--and of course that was forced migration and human trafficking. The book makes the indisputable point is that our nation is from people mostly from other places and that immigration policy has only been restrictive in a discriminatory manner. President Kennedy also writes eloquently about the very American principles of equal opportunity that our country was founded upon (despite having mistakenly departed from those principles and needing to expand the franchise). This book is a great read and clearly demonstrates that if we are to be true to our values, there is no reason to discriminate against current immigrants.
