A VERY UNIQUE RESOURCE!!

Are you a professional with a background in basic electrical circuit theory and electromagnetics? If you are, then this book is for you. Author Rick Sturdivant, has done an outstanding job of writing a book that presents the electronic packaging issues that are unique to microwave and millimeter-wave frequencies; and, reviews general electronic packaging techniques for how they can be tailored to higher frequency designs.

Author Sturdivant, begins with an introduction to the topic of packaging at microwave and millimeter-wave frequencies. Next, the author addresses materials issues that are of particular interest for high-frequency package designs. Then, he focuses on ceramics for packaging. In addition, the author presents laminate-based packaging, which is very attractive for low-cost, high-volume products. He continues by focusing on the electrical modeling of wire bonds and flip chip interconnects. Next, the author discusses second-level packaging, which includes quad flat no-lead packages, leadless chip carriers, and packages with leads and soldier bump packages. Then, he discusses microelectronic modules and motherboards, which must have properly designed transmission lines to interconnect between integrated circuits. In addition, the author focuses on transitions between signal transport structures, such as transmission lines and 3D packaging interconnects. He continues by reviewing the heat transfer mechanisms; and, then provides details on high-power amplifier thermal modeling, with the goal of maintaining device junction temperatures to ensure reliability. Next, the author addresses electrical design from the perspective of using electromagnetic design tools that have been commercialized during the past 20 years. Finally, he discusses some of the new horizons in electronic packaging, including chip scale packaging, MEMS etching techniques, and new 3D material fabrication techniques.

Throughout this most excellent book, dimensions are given in units of meters, except in the rare case where industry standards require the use of other units. Also, this great book shows how electromagnetic simulations were conducted, by using the High Frequency Structure Simulator from ANSYS, Inc.

About the Author
Scott B. Keller is a professor of logistics and marketing at the University of West Florida. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Arkansas and has been on faculty at Penn State and Michigan State. His research interests include issues in personnel development and performance, and the development of market-oriented cultures within logistics operations. He has conducted research for numerous corporations, and his work has appeared in leading logistics journals. He is the co-editor of the International Journal of Logistics Management, an associate editor of the Journal of Business Logistics and a member of the Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals. His managerial experience is in warehousing, motor carrier operations, and ocean freight terminal operations.

Brian Keller became an independent consultant in 2006. In this capacity, he has supported commercial industry companies as well as Government entities including the Office of the Deputy Under Secretary of Defense for Innovation & Technology Transition, the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), and the Defense Science Board. Previously, Keller was chairman and president of GMA Cover Corporation, a multinational company that designed, manufactured, and supported signature management products including the Ultra Lightweight Camouflage Net System (ULCANS). During Keller’s tenure, GMA won the Department of the Army competitive procurement for a $1.7B ULCANS production contract. Prior to GMA, Keller was a vice president for Stewart & Stevenson (now part of BAE) where he was responsible for the Family of Medium Tactical Vehicle (FMTV) A1R program including the successful award of the $4B rebuy production contract. Keller completed a 21-year military career as a logistician, Lieutenant Colonel, and the Army Product Manager for Field Support Systems. He is an alumni of the Harvard Business School, received a Bachelor of Science degree from the United States Military Academy at West Point, an MBA degree from the Florida Institute of Technology, and an MS degree in industrial engineering from the University of Alabama.

A Basic Overview - far from Definitive

Disappointing.
Upon receiving it, I was surprised at how thin this book was given it was advertised as a definitive guide.
It lacks detail and depth and barely scratches the surface of any of the topics covered.
Furthermore, the examples used are already dated and far from Interesting.

About the Author

Michelle Martin has over 25 years of experience working in advocacy, policy and social work. She has a PhD in Peace Studies from the University of Bradford in the UK, an MSocSci in global policy studies from the University of Bristol in the UK, and an MSW from University of Illinois, Jane Addams College of Social Work in Chicago. Michelle is the author of three books, Introduction to Human Services: Through the Eyes of Practice Settings; Advocacy for Social Justice: A Global Perspective, and Introduction to Social Work: Through the Eyes of Practice Settings (forthcoming), and several articles focusing primarily on social policy and global issues related to human rights violations and conflict. Her area of research focuses on the internationalization of global conflict, including the history of ethno nationalist conflict, and civil war and genocide in Rwanda, with a focus on the role of social media in conflict and peace processes. She has also extensively studied forced migration and conflict-generated diaspora and their engagement in peace and conflict processes.

 

Michelle is also interested in human rights mechanisms and the role of the United Nations in responding to human rights violations, as well as the relationship between emerging technologies, globalization and global conflict situations. Michelle is particularly committed to advocating for marginalized and at-risk populations on a global level. Michelle is a full-time faculty member at DePaul University in Chicago in the MSW program. She currently lives in downtown Chicago, and is the mother of one college-aged son. When she is not working or traveling for her research, she enjoys spending time with her son, doing artwork and running along the Chicago lakefront.

I cannot recommend this book because the contents are highly subjective

I cannot recommend this book because the contents are highly subjective. For a (text)book on social advocacy, there should be multiple perspectives of each issue (homophobia, racism, sexism, etc.) but the only personal account is the author's on the preface. I feel this book is a personal journal on the ills of the world. No textbook should be this subjective.

"Georgia Peach" was a wickedly, hart-stopping fun read. I especially enjoyed the growth development of Georgia. In the beginning she was pinning for her cheating ex. Along way she met someone he showed her that love can come at any age. Furthermore I loved her inter-action with her daughters.

Gracie was trip. Even though she to got a happy ending I was pissed. I felt her long suffering husband deserve better. As for Kennie I love her take charge personality.

When his family duties allow, he spends his spare time outdoors with his two dogs Buck and Samson. He lives in the South Eastern part of the United States. As a youth, a family trip to Australia forever changed the course Paul would take on his way to return home to South Carolina to begin a family, raise dogs, and eventually write. For a year in high school, Paul headed back to Australia to study, and then again, during college he did the same. After finishing college, he headed to Africa to work with the Peace Corps. Not a sweet romance novel

Despite the warning in the book description, this was not at all what I expected. To be frank, the first half of the book just disgusted me. If I hadn't received this as an ARC, I would have put the book down and not finished it. This has nothing to do with the author or her style of writing. In fact, I can honestly say Monica James is a very talented writer. It's just not my kind of story. The book is done in the males POV, which I happen to like and it wouldn't have worked any other way. Despite the first half making me want to puke, the author actually started to turn the story around for me. I almost thought I was going to end up liking the book by the end but then the results of Dixon's disgusting behavior came back to bite him in the ass. This left this book off with a cliffhanger implying things in the next book that just makes me want to scream! I honestly don't know if I will read the next book. If the book starts out like it implies, my answer is hell no! But, we all know the story doesn't always end the way you think it will. I could end up loving this series and will depend on the author.

I don't want to give any spoilers but just to warn you there is darker material in this book than I was expecting and the actions of some of the characters were just vile. Again, I do believe the author can turn this book around for me but I would be taking a chance that she might cross the line I personally have for this type of book. Just be forewarned this is not a sweet romantic book and I don't know if you'll love Dixon or hate him.

Honest Review

Despite the warning in the synopsis to expect the unexpected, I'm afraid I just didn't expect the things in this book.

Now whilst the whole concept is nothing new, regardless of the warning I had high hopes for Dixon, a psychiatrist who specialised in addiction, but sadly he is what ultimately ruined this book for me. I know he claims not to be the hero, but I at least expected the man to be sexy. I did not like him one bit. Firstly it was his failure to keep his genitals in his pants. I mean he claims to have some connection to the sweet and innocent Madison, yet couldn't turn down the devil's spawn that is Juliet. Now some may wonder what the problem with that is, but to me the man came across as weak and cowardly. He displayed so much self pity and the fact that he not only was someone who I would very much expect to be a walking advertisement for an STD commercial, I just found myself thinking he also needed to get over his ex fiancé, Lily. I could sympathise with his aversion to relationships, I get that he had been hurt in the past, but it was his weak mind that very much made me despise him.

Lines such as this one "I find myself staring at her like a creepy old pervert" and "Not that long ago, I recall you not having any qualms touching a certain little girl,” were pretty off putting and not something I want to hear from ANY fictional man. Which leads me onto my next point. What kind of pheromones was this guy giving off? Because I tell you, women were round Dixon like dogs on heat. I felt like diving in the book and telling them to stop with the desperation. It became totally unbelievable by the end.

I also found too many coincidences in this book. Madison or Juliet would always turn up at the right/wrong moment. New York is a pretty big place and some of these coincidences even spread to Boston, now whilst I admit I love an unexpected appearance of a character now and again, in this instance it was just too much.

Another major issue I had seemed to be that there is a huge flaw in the plotline surrounding Madison and her past. For obvious reasons I don't want to go into what that is, as it could potentially ruin the book for anyone wishing to read it, but the use of a couple of words have been totally misconstrued and to my knowledge have not been used in the right context and they contradict the other.

Also Madison reveals something near the end and to me, I felt this cheapened the story. I've read books that have touched on this subject and were probably a lot more graphic, but due to the nature of the book and the misinterpretation of words, I really do believe that this subject could have been better dealt with.

The book ends in a way that leaves no doubt there will be another book, but for me personally the ending was too abrupt. It simply felt rushed.

Despite my misgivings, I do feel the book was pretty well edited, in so much as the sentence structures and dialogue were well put together and that in itself shows the author does have a talent for writing, but the whole plot of this book just wasn't for me. I'd like to point out that it didn't shock me, as I like to think I've read quite a diverse collection of books, but maybe if it was told entirely in Madison's perspective, I may have had a completely different reaction, but I wish the author every success and it is with regret that this book just wasn't for me.

AWESOME! Buckle up and enjoy a very bumpy ride !!! :)

WHOA! WHOA!!! 4.5 Stars.

I just finished an ARC of Addicted to Sin and boy let me tell you it absolutely lived up to its title. First I want to address that when I was reading the description of the book it sounded like a love triangle (I am not down with love triangle or three-some myself ☺)… BUT let me say that this is NOT a LOVE TRIANGLE, no cheating involved … but rather the guy was torn about choosing the right girl. GOOD versus EVIL.

Dixon is a shrink who makes tons of money listening to people pouring their sinful secrets. His job is to help them come to term with their problems but he himself is a lost cause. He has a dark secret of his own – SEX ADDICTION.

At first I thought I was going to dislike Dixon because even though his patients were all too willing (some aggressive) to engage in sexual act during their sessions I thought it was unethical because these patients are vulnerable and should not be taken advantage off. Yes! That’s me, the nurse talking … LOL But I realized I am reading a book, not real life!!!! Silly me ☺ Dixon really grows on me. He is a hot, sexy, caring, good guy at heart – just been burnt bad and that’s changed him as a person. Turned him into a man-whore!!!

Dixon met two beautiful women. Madison is a smart, sweet and innocent young student. She also has a dark past that makes it hard for her to open up and trust people but she is attracted to Dixon. Their relationship was rocky partly from Dixon not able to make up his mind choosing the one but also from the struggles she still hasn't dealt with from her secret past. Dixon's trying to be a good friend, and the way he takes care of Madison is heart-warming. He calls her "angelo" Gah!!! swoon-worthy!

All that Italian talks geez --- pant-melting. Why didn't I learn Italian in high school?

Note written from Madison "...I saved you a piece - from one angel to another..." - isn't she sweet?

Juliet on the other hand is a crazy sex addict … she is borderline stalker. I felt the whole “Fatal attraction-ish” oozing from that woman. Yikes!!! Dixon is attracted to both women for very different reasons. Juliet satisfies his sex addiction issue, whereas with Madison he can have a real relationship that he was once capable of. So, who will he choose???

This is the first book I read from Ms. Monica James … AWESOME! I am already asking her for more sinful book ☺☺ LOL …

I really enjoyed her writing style. It lured me in the story and kept my interest and curiosity until the end. I also enjoyed the funny dialogues between Dixon and his friends.

This book is really sexy and steamy. So yeah, buckle up and enjoy the a very bumpy ride (punch intended) ☺
