Great resource in learning the ins and outs of investment banking. The book covers everything you can need and imagine from preparing for the interview to what the lifestyle and an investment banker is once inside. I believe that the book can be best used as a reference guide like textbook. Helpful, simply written and valuable. Use this in conjunction with the Vault guide and you will know almost as much about banking as the person interviewing you.

A very poor book to learn SolidWorks - a great product

I had the pleasure of meeting this professor last summer during a camp at Northeastern University. Sadly we were made to use his book to learn SolidWorks. The book reflex's a brilliant person who does not understand their target audience and believes that everyone should first cover theory and know Calculus before they learn a 3D CAD software package like SolidWorks.

In my opinion SolidWorks is best learned thru short tutorials and projects and that is where this book falls short (very short). Most of the tutorials are exercises in pure frustration and aggravation. They are difficult / impossible to follow, brief and leaves much uncertainty to the user. This book is not for a new user or for anyone how wants to learn SolidWorks. This is the first bad review that I have ever written; but I hope NU will not use this book for summer camp again. It will not help the teachers in the Boston community.

Book it self is fundamentally good. I learned how to use SolidWorks with it, but I have been drafting on and off for 20 years with various software packages. I use it to teach my drafting class.

Be aware that if you are not buying a current book with this years student license, you will have a lot of trouble installing the software as SolidWorks will not provide you with a 24 digit serial number because your license is already expired. Huge pain in the neck.

I suggest you buy book and student version seperate. Pearson will not help you on this issue unless you buy directly from them and SolidWorks will be skeptical.

Pretty explanatory for most renderings and I'm glad the university used this book over other ones. However, when the models got more involved, it glossed over, if not outright omitted, some steps and the reader was left to figuring out how they ended up with the result the book did.

Oh I wish...

I cannot mistake it for being anything but a fantasy, but one that appeals a lot to me...women who one gets to see naked at least once a day, a roommate that you are told has been computer-assigned to you on the basis of sexual compatablily, a nice isolated New England college. Such a life - would definitely be good!
I enjoyed the heck out of this in the early seventies. While not anywhere as explicit as "Literotica" or other writings on the web, back then it was pretty hot stuff, particularly for someone who had lazy intellectual pretensions. The scene where two of our heroes/heroines have a long discussion of the history of polyamory while continuously coupled was especially pleasing.
Since then, I've grown up some; I've realized the war between advocates of prohibitions on sexual conduct, usually backed by the established religions, on the one hand, and the advocates of sexual license on the other, is never going to be won by one side or the other. Although not religious myself, I am mature enough to know that neither side is entirely right or wrong, and the advocacy of complete sexual license is often just one other strategy for guys to try and cut themselves out as big a slice of the female gene pie as possible. Heck, it sure worked for Rasputin and Charles Manson. I've also noticed the participants in the experiment are a cross-section of a '60s student body - white, middle class, without physical handicaps, and secure in their futures. Except for the young Indian girl who taken out of poverty is quickly converted to the "new American way." The earlier writer who said this reflected cultural arrogance is on the mark here.
Still, I still keep my copy around, reread it from time to time, and sure wish I could get dormed with someone like Sheila.

The Harrad Experiment is set in the 1960s, and tells of a college established to form new styles of looking at relationships. It is written in diary-style, by four of the fictional students, covering their four years there.

This is an interesting book, which at the time of its publication, was revolutionary. Keep in mind it was written when censorship was considered a good thing, by an author who had to travel to India to get a copy of the Kama Sutra.

I was surprised to learn that during the first twelve years, before it went out of print, The Harrad Experiment sold 3 million copies. It garnered a huge following, and people thought Harrad College was a real place, and clamored to attend. The author received letters from people all over. Had the internet been around, it would have spawned blogs and forums and communities.

As it stands, along with the works of Robert Heinlein, it is considered one of the founding novels that lead to the modern polyamory movement. I am polyamorous, living with two life-partners in a triad relationship, and we are raising three children. I owe my lifestyle to this book, although I didn't read it until many years after becoming poly.

I started reading this book a few years back, but found it a bit boring, perhaps because the co-ed dorms and free-love living arrangements were not so shocking to me, as a practicing poly person in the early 2000s. So the authors hook failed on me. Also I think I was also expecting something a bit more sci-fi. After about 20% in, I set it down. I just returned to it, determined to finish it no matter what.

It does get a little more interesting, and plot points *do* happen, though I still found it a bit dry. The dialog is stiff and at times, not natural, just the author speaking through his characters.

Oddly, due to the setting, culture, and subject matter, it reminded me a bit of Pamela Dean's Tam Lin, which is also set in a college (in the early 1970s), and I almost wonder if she was slightly influenced by The Harrad Experiment. (Not to imply Tam Lin is a novel about polyamory - it isn't, though her characters do experiment with the new sexual mores than 1973 provided them.)

Rimmer imagines a world in which sex is a product of love, deep abiding connection with other human beings, of learning the inner landscape of multiple lovers to create life-long bonds of family. He extends this idea of family to children, with the idea of creating family units for the purpose of raising happy, healthy human beings.

I found some of his approaches a bit fixated on "the right way" to do things, that all society should follow the authors ways, or perish. The book did cross the lines into being preachy. The author has his idea of what is good and right based on his personal experiences, and rules out experiences and preferences of others.

For example, he is against all forms of what he calls "sick sex", which contextually, he implies BDSM, kink, and other lifestyle variations. Some people do find deep connection and spirituality in power exchange, but he is unable to recognize this.

Likewise, he comes across as a bit homophobic, focusing on heterosexuality, and ignoring the family bonds and importance of the power of love in homosexual unions. Parts also come off a bit sexist.

This book is a product of its time, so I can't blame him too much, given that it is *still* hard to think outside those boxes in today's age.

Rimmer also has, both in the novel and in the essay at the end, a staunch anti-porn stance. This is understandable, since his goal is to rid the world of rutting, physical, mindless sex, in favor of emotional and spiritual connection. That is to be commended. Indeed, those who only understand the physical form are surely missing something, and that is indeed a huge part of sex in America today. But both types of sex have a place within a person's life and relationships.

In spite of itself, Harrad University gave off a culty vibe. It is run by a married couple, and at the end of the four years, the students seem lock-step with what the teachers have given them. The students are off to convert the world to their exact standards, with regimented rules and new laws that will solve all problems and make everyone be happy.

Rimmer has a naive view of what makes people unhappy in life, and what makes people incompatible with each other. His conclusions seem very utopian, i.e. if only the world would follow my plan, there would be no war, no divorce, no addiction, just happy children frolicking about. In fact, we are psychologically complex creatures, difficult to persuade. We clutch our childhood pain, and brandish our defense mechanisms, and all these things lead much more often to human pain than outmoded monogamy. Human beings are not healed so easily, nor are they persuaded to change their morality, no matter how much it makes sense for them to do so.

His essay at the end, and the discussions of the students in their fourth year, present some good ideas that seem really great on the surface, but with deeper thought would prove to have all sorts of unintended consequences.

After finishing this novel, I was surprised to learn two things. One, that there is a movie based on this novel, available on YouTube, which I have added to my To Watch list. And secondly, there is no Wikipedia article for the novel. And their should be, since I'm sure the history of this book, and how it was received by America, is fascinating. Rimmer's biography provided in the back of the book was not enough to sate my curiosity.

Dirty? nah....Tame!

Still a good laugh after 35+ years. I thought it was "dirty" when I read it as a teenager, but what the heck, I was about 14 at the time. And you know what, the attitude towards sex, while casual, was humorous and fun and respectful and serious all at once, and that made a huge impression on me at the time. And I'm not sorry that it did.

And even back then I knew it was fiction! A fun read, and as other reviewers have pointed out, a good portrait of the kind of innocent idealism so many of us shared back then.

It seems ages since I started hunting for articles and other information in the net that would give me an idea of what is good and what isn’t in making money online. I am not into quick money making scams in the net nowadays. A decent, passive income is better than trying that annoying get-rich-fast information spoiling the web. I watched a couple of YouTube videos and found a few blogs here and there, but this book is the ultimate source of information for me to start earning money online. The only downside I found about this book is that the book is very long… to the point of me feeling ‘knowledge overload’. The downside is also the plus factor of this book- it was totally loaded with great insights. Apparently, no one will be able to come up with a large amount of writing such as this, as easy as that. I am totally inspired by reading this. I noticed few sentences that were missed out during the editing process, but it is forgivable. The information here is invaluable and exceeded my expectations. It is totally relevant to what I am looking for. Highly recommended to all work-at- home professionals, including those who are contemplating to make money online as additional source of income.

This is not the sort of book I usually buy, but I am very glad that I did. Alan Woods has written succinct and precise instructions with clear reasoning behind the advice. The reader is left knowing exactly what to do to follow the advice and which steps to take first. Most books in the genre feel padded and repetitive, but say very little, but with this book, it is not the case. I love the use of real language, clear points and an organized and well-planned out format. The book is current and up-to-date with the latest products and services; it also provides links to blogs and sites allowing the reader to feel fully informed. I have actually taken the author’s advice, thanks to the easy instructions within, and it has already proved positive. I will definitely be interested to see more of his work.

Helen Corbitt was an amazing person. She was director of Restaurants for Neiman-Marcus in Dallas for as far back as I can remember. As a new bride in 1960, I receive this cookbook. It has many tattered and splattered pages, but I continue to treasure it. (You should taste her Dixie Pecan Pie!) Even though the books are out of print, they are worth purchasing as a part of history! I am now exploring buying these for my daughters and granddaughters!

Helen Corbitt's recipes are not overly fussy, are easy to prepare and result in some of the best tasting food you will ever eat. She designed her recipes to produce good tasting and looking food. Sheer volume of information is MIND BLOWING!

This book is quite overwhelming. If you don't understand Israel's responsibility to God and God's responsibility to Israel through the covenants that they both willingly entered into you need look no further. I can see why this was 16 years in the making. Torah is not as complicated as most make it out to be. Onstott systematically breaks down each covenant and then goes into great detail explaining why and how it benefits man through natural, physical, and spiritual law. Onstott makes the complicated easily digestable. This book has been a game changer for me and it came right a pivotal point in my life. The sheer volume of information in one place is mind blowing. "YHWH EXIST" absolutely should to be required reading in every college and university religion and theology department. This is a college course all by itself. I can't honestly see how Onstott or any other biblical scholar or theologian could top this. Game changer is an understatement! Can't wait for volume 2!

The Prophetic Times of the Testimonial Law

A very interesting section of this book to me is Chapter 14, "The Testimonial Law." Here is how it is introduced:
"The covenants that YHWH contracted with Noah, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob were combined into a chronological Prophetic Law in the books of Leviticus and Deuteronomy. ...While the Ten Commandments constituted the Stipulation for Israel’s covenant, the blessings and curses formed a chronological Law that all prophecies followed. It was the formal covenant treaty that formed the nation’s Testimony, and more specifically the Testimony referred to the blessing and cursing portions of the Law (Isa 8:20). For this reason I have also termed the Testimony the 'Prophetic Law.'”
The prophetic pattern of these laws is laid down in Leviticus 23 to Leviticus 26, cycles of SEVEN TIMES. Seven times seven days are numbered in Leviticus 23. Seven times seven years are numbered in Leviticus 25. And seven times cycles of national punishments are elaborated in Leviticus 26.
Jodell Onstott's major new work on the history, covenants and constitution of ancient Israel, by coincidence, has a publication date of May 24; in 2015, the day on the Hebrew calendar that is counted 49 days or 7 "complete weeks/sevens," from Passover to Shavuot. The command to count 49 days "from the morrow after the Sabbath during Passover week," and observe an annual Sabbath on the 50th day is given in Leviticus 23:15-22, JUST PRIOR to the Jubilee year commandment in Leviticus 25. In my mind, they are linked! There is a correspondence between the seven "times" of days counted to the celebration of Shavuot, and the seven "times" of years counted to the Jubilee Year. I have long wondered, is this not a prophetic message in time?! The question is, what is the message? And WHEN is the Jubilee year?
In Chapter 14, Jodell Onstott provides more information and new perspectives on this topic. We are introduced to the SEVEN TIMES punishments of the Covenant elaborated in Leviticus 26. Jodell Onstott traces these seven times punishments in the history of ancient Israel, and harmonizes them with the curses of Deuteronomy 28-29. The judgments testify to the claims of the Covenant Israel willingly entered. "The testimony defines the judgments God will perform to limit the nations wickedness" (p.697).
One of the icons of America is the Liberty Bell, on which is inscribed from the Torah of Moses: "Proclaim Liberty throughout all the land unto all the inhabitants thereof." The verse is from Leviticus 25:10. The entire chapter of Leviticus 25 establishes the seven-year land rests and the fiftieth year Jubilee of redemption from servitude and debts. The Liberty Bell was commissioned in 1751 to commemorate the 50-year anniversary of William Penn's 1701 Charter of Privileges, Pennsylvania's original Constitution. The fundamental concepts of Redemption, Freedom, Liberty and Constitutional Law are drawn from the Testimonial Law of Moses and its prophetic institutions carefully researched and presented in Chapter 14 of Jodell Onstott's comprehensive book.

A Substantial, Serious, and Formidable Work

This is a substantial book, a serious and formidable work, by a non-specialist who devoted over a decade to sorting through the academic and scholarly discussions and controversies dealing with the historical and archaeological evidence related to the texts of the Hebrew Bible. Is there evidence for the biblical Exodus? What are we to make of the various chronologies of the ancient world compared and contrasted with those in the Hebrew Bible and Greek Septuagint? Is the Torah a unified whole or a composite product stemming from many sources? How might the laws of the Torah be interpreted and do they have any relevance in our modern world? What about the various covenants found therein? How do the prophetic portions of the Torah and the Hebrew Bible as a whole fit in with the legislative foundation and the unfolding history of the people of Israel? The book is beautifully produced and professionally laid out, abundantly illustrated, with 300 pages of charts, notes, bibliography, and index. Given its size (over 1100 pages!) and substantial contents the price, that some might consider "high," is actually very reasonable.

The theory is explaned well and motivated, but what makes the book great are the examples. There are many worked examples and they are chosen to make things very clear.

Great Content, questionable Binding

Very well written and easy to follow. The systematic approach to the various forms of estimators clears up what was was originally a 'mess' of estimators and gives concise summaries on the interrelation between them.

My only complaint is the poor quality binding which is already starting to fall apart after less than a three months of normal usage. For this price, a proper binding would have been in order.

great textbook for class or for self study

Wonderful book. Explanations are clear and examples are plenty and very insightful. The author's prose is somewhat spartan but very accessible and to the point. It is a book for studying and reading with a pen and pencil while working through the exercises as you stride along. One can definitely learn a lot about estimation from it: Cramer-Rao lower bound, minimum variance estimators, linear data model, least squares estimation, maximum likelihood, method of moments, MAP estimation, bayesian estimation and all. Later chapters DO build on top of previous ones, so it is NOT a book to read here and there or to use as a reference, unless you have already worked through it before. End of chapter problems do not come with solutions, but are very cleverly thought out to add more to what has been learned in the chapter. Plenty of examples throughout the book. Lots of back-references to examples in previous chapters and back-references to previous sections. Very much like a textbook, either for class or self study. In other words, the author has what it takes to write a good (text)book. Good no, wonderful. Thumbs up and five stars.
