Terrific, Comprehensive Reference

Instant jQuery Selectors is a really good comprehensive reference for anyone wanting to get more power out of there $({{selectors}}). I learned several things I didn't know that jQuery was able to do and while it is rare that you need much more than the regular ID or class selector, there are certainly those instances where you need a little bit more. Instant jQuery Selectors will teach you those things and a few other nuances about jQuery itself.
The code walk throughs are also very instructive to help you understand and solidify the concepts for you. And when all is said and done, owning this book is a great reference for the power of jQuery selectors. Definitely would recommend this one!

Essential reading for aspirant masters at visual thinking and communication

The best I've seen yet. This wide-ranging book, in addition to what most other books cover, adds two nifty frameworks that, between them capture the essence of what took me years of experience to master, Firstly, while most other books focus on design execution, Berinato adds the dimension of contextual awareness as an essential element of a good chart, and devotes considerable space to elaborating how to create contextually aware charts. Secondly,his "Four types" framework covers both data driven and conceptual charts, which are not usually treated as related. It also makes a clear distinction between exploratory and explanatory charts, emphasizing how their requirements differ, a distinction which usually goes unappreciated. Hence it unifies, expands and at the same time differentiates the topic of charts in a remarkably useful way.

"Good Charts" has the clarity of thinking that makes it points clearly and simply, without clutter and without oversimplifying - the signature of a master. Highly recommended.

Outstanding Reference and Resource!

Years ago in a development program I was asked to draw something that "represented me." Drawing upon all of my visual, artistic and creative skills ... I drew a single vertical line down the center of the flip chart page. If you can relate, then this book is for you. To be clear, this is not a beginner's guide, per se; many of the example visualizations in the book are quite sophisticated, although the author's use of them to illustrate design points are easy to understand and implement. The beauty of this book is in the author's immensely readable writing style, the system of thinking visually to build better charts that he lays out in the book, and the use of many (many!) examples to make his points. On p. 12 the author states "I hope this book will become a well-worn, dog-eared companion." After just a few weeks my copy is already in that state.

Well written, HOT story!

Loved Battle Buddies, and loved Tuck & Cover too! I enjoyed seeing Owen's side of things, you get much more detail in this version. He is out to drive Tuck crazy, and does, but in a goooood way! The writing was great, the story was good, not a lot of drama, just lots of Ranger life, which was fine. It didn't need lots of drama. The sex between Owen and Tuck was fast and hot, exactly the way I like it! Looking forward to following more of these boys.....

I love these guys and Tuck and Cover did not disappoint.
Another goodread in the Rough Rangers series. I don't know how Jo does it but the feelings shared and love not to mention HOT love scenes are wonderful.
The way she incorporated the title into the story really choked me up.

I absolutely loved this book! "Battle Buddy" was the story of Tuck and Owen meeting and getting together, told from Tuck's point-of-view (POV). After reading Tuck's "diary" of events in "Battle Buddy," Owen decided he wanted his story to be heard as well; hence, us very lucky readers now have "Tuck & Cover."

For me, I love reading books written in first person POV. I feel like I become more connected to the main character telling the story, and I feel for him/her so much more than I normally do when written in third person POV. Not always, but a lot. The downfall to first person POV, however, is that while we get to hear what other characters might say, or see what they do, we miss out on their thoughts, their insight, and the inner workings of their actions. Well, Peterson has so graciously provided her readers with both. We were able to closely connect with Tuck in "Battle Buddy," but now in "Tuck & Cover," we get to hear Owen's thoughts about falling for Tuck, and all that he was thinking throughout his time in Basic and Rangers' training, and the processing of his attraction for Tuck.

What I found interesting is that while Owen loved to do things to drive Tuck mad, he was going through some of the same internal grief that we previously saw Tuck having. Owen has known for a long time that he was gay; however, from the time of early childhood, it was engrained in him that he would grow up to be an Army Ranger, and that is what he sets out to do. But his attraction to Tuck has other plans. So as much as he tries to focus on his training, to fulfill his Ranger dreams, Tuck keeps coming to the forefront of his thoughts, and finally, he gives into that attraction.

The beauty of "Tuck & Cover" is that while we get Owen's POV for a lot we saw in "Battle Buddy," Owen takes it a little bit further, so we get new aspects to their story as well, and holy hot tamale, are those some fabulous parts!! We see Owen in a role that he doesn't often portray, but he sums it up so beautifully: "And hey, I found out that day I had a new kink. Power Bottom!" Oh yeah!!!!

In addition to the very, very hot sexy time, we get to see more wonderful development between these amazing fellows. Their chemistry is off the charts, and their antagonistic, but equally playful, interactions are great fun to watch unfold. They are also so very sweet with each other, especially with their non-Christmas presents to each other.

"Tuck & Cover" doesn't finish the tale for these Rangers, but it ends with a teaser of where their story takes them next. Once again, Peterson does an amazing job in this fabulously told novella, ramps up the hotness factor, and leaves the reader ecstatic with the growth between Tuck and Owen. I am waiting on pins and needles to see what happens next!

I am in process of opening center, so I bought this expecting more details on how to actually do some of the intricate things. Like track the jobs to the actual investment or more specificity on handling the security laws issue or instructions on how to do the economic, job creation impacts on an area. This has some good information so it is two stars, however I pretty much just tells me to get an expert in every paragraph. I think she tells me to get an expert in every single sentence for the first two pages

Nice for a young girl....older that 7 though

I gave this as a gift. Nice condition. I liked how it looked on the internet, but found it wasn't as youthful as I would have liked. It is actually more for a 4th or 5th grader.

I love this bible for my daughter & she likes it too, but she won't take it anywhere. She is afraid other kids at church/camp will make fun of her b/c it is a "princess" bible.

"Science can reveal the depth of this crisis," the book concluded, "but only social action can resolve it."

Science and Survival

This book was a non-fiction book that was written in 1967 and was mostly based on the United States. However, Commoner did talk about worldwide effects too.
The characters or people he dealt with in his book were government officials and scientists who kept information secret, other privately funded scientists who found serious mistakes in government testing, and everyone else in society.
Science is advancing before consequences of nuclear tests and other tests are known. Commoner urges citizens for reform in government policies to protect us from the evils of nuclear fallout. The story is quite interesting, because he describes a valid point even with the limited knowledge he had over thirty years ago. He warns of the danger of fallout in this quote: "To understand the biological effects of fallout we must know what happens at each step of this complicated chain of events. There is now a fairly complete published record of this knowledge. This record reveals a number of important errors in our understanding of the problem, which remained uncorrected until the testing of nuclear weapons in the atmosphere was in full swing and fallout had been massively disseminated into the environment."
This book was left open-ended. He called everyone to make changes in the system. This story still continues. As we continue to pollute our earth, the earth will eventually not be safe from mankind. Only scientists and society will decide how this drama will unfold.
The theme is that political power and moral judgment should be used to keep mankind and science from inevitably destroying our race. He says that society should protest against the evils of government testing.
I recommend this book to anyone interested in science or interested in the survival of the human race on this planet. I definitely discourage anyone with a short attention span or anyone with limited knowledge in science from reading this book. It gets very scientific and somewhat boring in some parts, but for the most part puts forth a good message.
